Machine Zone has released an update adding the Strategic Troop to Game of War: Fire Age. The new troops can be trained in your barracks under a new tab which includes 12 new units.
Strategic troops follow the same tier system as regular troops, with a new ranged, cavalry and infantry unit for each of the 4 tiers. The only unit not to have a strategic version added is siege.
All of the new troops need to be unlocked first by researching them in your Academy, before you can begin training. You will find them under the new Strategic Combat Tree. In addition you can research Strategic Troop attack and defense for each troop type, along with troop health and defense which mirrors the regular combat research tree.
The new troops mirror Strategic Wall Traps which were added last month, in that each troop has a special attack boost against a specific troop. However, the downside is that Strategic Troops are weak against all other troop types and do not have the bonus against Siege that regular troops have.
Each of the three troops in a tier will be classed as either “very strong” against Infantry, Ranged or Calvary.
The troops fall into the following tiers:-

The time taken and cost to build Strategic Troops is exactly the same as their normal troop equivalent for each tier. However, one of the prerequisites is that you must have the equivalent normal troop researched before you can unlock the Strategic version.
We have been waiting for a new unit to be added to Game of War: Fire Age for some time now and whilst the addition of Strategic Troops is a welcomed, we would rather of seen a completely new type of troop with a unique attack or defense.
Whilst Strategic troops will allow some specialist attacks where a player has a large number of a single troop type, most players do seem to prefer a more balanced army, where unfortunately the Strategic Troop will be most venerable.
