Deciding where to place your valuable skill points in Game of War: Fire Age can be tricky. The good news is unlike many other games, respeccing your Hero’s skills is relatively cheap when purchased through the alliance store at 150,000 points.
You can also purchase a Hero Skill Rest for 1,000 gold in the item store (although this is not recommended as this is a really poor gold to Alliance point rate).
First of all you need to understand that the skill rewards are exponential not liner. That is to say that points spent further into a skill give a larger bonus.
Take Construction I as an example. This maxes out after spending 10 points with a 40% cumulative boost. If the skill increases were liner you would expect a 4% increase for each point you spend.
In actual fact the first point you spend will yield 1%, the second will add an additional 2%, third 4% and the final point will give you a 10% boost for just 1 skill point.
What’s important to understand from this, is that you are better off maxing a few skills, than spreading them out over multiple different skills.
A lot of players tend to either go down the left side of the skill tree (combat), or the right side (economics), I personally favour a more balanced approach.
Don’t get me wrong there are times when I respec solely for combat; such as Kill Events, Kingdom Events and Large scale alliance wars. However, for the most part I like to spec out for the following four main skills:-
Construction boosts are key to advancing your city and there are very few items with decent construction boosts out there. In addition there are no items from the store that provide a boost to construction.
Research boosts are key to unlocking units faster and improving all aspects of your economics and military. Again, there are relatively few decent research items and no research boosts in the item or alliance store.
Everyone wants a big army and reducing training speeds will let you accomplish this faster. The only other way to increase troop training speed is the 20% boost from research and by building Villa’s. Training lots of troops is by far the fastest way to gain power.
I generally leave food production to last and just spend enough points to keep me out of the red. There are a vast number of good food bonus items you can craft, plus cheap food boosts from the alliance store. However, as your army increases you will start to need more and more food, so inevitably you may need to spend some skill points if you want to avoid a negative food rate.
Your first 39 points should be spent as follows:-
2 in Troop Attack
2 in Food Production
10 in Construction
10 in Research
15 in Troop training.
It doesn’t matter too much which skill you go for first, but I would max one at a time due to the cumulative bonuses mentioned above. You will need a level 18 Hero to max all of these skills.
After spending your 39 points you will have a 40% boost to construction, 40% boost to research and a 30% boost to troop training – not too shabby!
Now you need to decide if you want to go for Construction II & Research II first, or Troop Training II. I tend to opt for construction first as food production is also down the right hand side, which can be useful.
Maxing construction II will require an additional 52 Points (Hero level 31). You will need to spend the following points:-
1 additional point in Food Production
3 in Stone Production
3 in Ore Production
5 in Silver Production
5 in Food Production II
5 in Wood Production II
5 in Ore Production II
5 in Silver Production II.
You will then need to spend 20 points in Construction to max it out, giving you another 65% decrease in construction time.
Total skill points spent: 91, bonuses:-
You will already have unlocked Research II and will just need another 4 hero levels (Hero level 35) to max it. Another 20 points spent in Research II adds 65% to research speed.
Total skill points spent: 111, bonuses:-
You will now need to head down the left hand side with the goal of unlocking Troop Training II. To get there you will need to spend another 69 points to unlock and max it. This will take you up to 180 skill points which requires Hero level 45.
You will need to spend the following points:-
2 in Ranged Attack
2 in Calvary Attack
5 in Infantry Attack
5 in Troop Health
5 in Troop Defense
5 in Trap Building
5 in Infantry Attack II
5 in Cavalry Attack II
You will then need to spend 35 in Troop Training II which gives a very nice 92% boost to troop training speed.
Total skill points spent: 180, bonuses:-
I would stick any remaining skill points in Food Production I, II and III. At level 50 you can max out all three of these giving you an impressive 842% boost to food production. You may also need to spend some points in Food Production along the way where needed, which will obviously delay the plan slightly.
