A full set of research items can dramatically reduce your research time in Game of War: Fire Age. Research allows you unlock new troops and traps and improve your cities productivity. It also greatly increases your troops attack, defense and health.
You should note that like the construction set you do not need to keep your research set equipped; this is because the build time is only calculated at the point you hit the research button in your Academy . You are then free to remove your research bonus equipment, whilst still maintaining the reduced build time.
You will need at least one piece of Glass to craft research items. A lot of the really good research items also need Jewelry. Both can be found in quests, but you can also fine Glass in mines and Jewelry in quarries on the world map.
Level 5 and 6 mines and quarries have the highest change of granting a resource item and generally at a higher level than the lower variants.
There are only two helms in the game that offer a research bonus, but sadly both can only be obtained with special items that dropped during the Spring 2014 and Winter 2013 in game events, so for most players these are not obtainable.
The Antler Helm requires the items from the Winter event and is a level 40 item. It provides a 20% boost at blue quality and 37.5% boost at orange. The Wicker Hat requires items from the Spring event, a level 45 item, which provides a 17.5% boost to research at blue and 25% boost for orange.
There are two pieces of research armor, the level 13 Priest’s Robes and the level 31 Spiked Armor. The Robes are probably a waste of materials, as they only provide a 4.6% boost to research at blue and 6.9% for orange. However if you do want to boost your research whilst waiting for level 31 they are a valid option.
The Spiked Armor is a great item as not only does it provides a fairly decent 16.4% boost to research for blue item quality and 24.6% for orange, but also a nice boost to infantry and siege attack. Quite a few players will keep this in their main armor slot until level 50.
Foot Armor has little to offer in the way of research boosts. In fact there is only a single level 1 item available out of the normal items in Game of War. This is the Cloth Skirt, providing a 2.2% boost at blue and a 3.3% boost at orange. Unless you want to squeeze every last percentage out of your research gear this is best avoided.
Yet again Machine Zone put the best items in the special event gear. The Rabbit Boots can be crafted from items dropped in the Spring 2014 event and provide a 9.45% boost to research at blue quality and 13.5% at orange. Given the difficulty in obtaining these items, it is unlikely you will be able to craft a high enough level pair of Rabbit Boots to make them worthwhile.
Again there is only one research weapon in the Game (apart from the Haunted Shield, a low level special event item) which is the level 40 Scythe. Like the Spiked Armor this is a fairly decent weapon providing boosts to Cavalry and Trap Attack.
The Scythe provides a 10% boost to research speed at blue quality and a 15% boost at orange.
You can equip two accessories (or three if you have a 21 Stronghold!) and there are a variety of items to choose from.
Levels 1 to 20 include items which give boosts between 1% and 20% at various qualities. Starting from the Flask (level 5) providing a 6%/9% blue/orange boost and ending in the Glass Ring (level 20) providing a 12%/18% blue/orange boost, you may consider crafting some low quality items early on whilst your Hero is leveling.
Levels 21 to 34 provides a wide choice of research items, so you can pick and choose items depending on the other boosts you require. The Gold Necklace is one notable item, whilst only providing a modest 8.8% boost to research at blue and 13.2% at orange, it does also provide a very nice 70.4% boost to food and silver production at blue, rising to 110%/132% respectively at orange.
Moving on to level 35 is the mirror. This is a great research item providing an 18% boost at blue quality and 27% at orange. As this item also provides a boost to construction you may wish to combine your research and construction accessories by using the mirror. However, most players will try and craft a separate Research and Construction accessory, as there are better options available for both.
Finally at level 40 you have The Chalice. This is the best research item in the game (there are some level 50 items, but the research boost is lower). At 20% for blue quality and 30% at orange, two Chalices will make a big dent in your research time. The Chalice requires 2 Glass, 1 Jewelry and a feather, so you may want to plan ahead and save your high level materials for the Chalice.
In addition the Chalice provides great boosts to food (80%/125% blue/orange) and silver (40%/75% blue/orange) production, making it a great all round accessory slot item.
For most players two Chalices, a Scythe and the Spiked Amor providing a 66.4% research boost at blue and 83% at purple should be enough to significantly reduce those research timers.
For those lucky enough to obtain enough orange materials this increases 99.6% for the items at orange and 129.6% if you add a third Chalice. Adding the orange cloth foot armor to the final slot pushes this up to a maximum of 132.9% (excluding special event items).
Assuming you have specced for Research Hero skills, you will gain an additional 105%, plus a level 21 Academy adds another 25%, pushing you to a very impressive 262.9% bonus to research.
