Clash of Clans Lava Hound

In Clash of Clans the Lava Hound is sixth troop unlocked in the Dark Barracks. Like all troops in the Dark Barracks the Lava Hound requires Dark Elixir to train.

The Lava Hound is a great aerial tank, with the highest health in the game. As it specifically targets air defenses first, it can be useful to send in before more venerable flying troops are dispatched. After all air defenses have been destroyed the Lava Hound will then attack ground defenses.

Like the Golem , the Lava Hound splits into smaller Lava Pups on destruction, which continue to attack until destroyed. The Lava Hound also causes area effect damage after it is killed.

Although they have significant health, they have fairly low dps and therefore will require support from other units. They offer protection to other high dps flying troops, such as Dragons, as they can draw fire from air defenses if sent in first.

Lava Hounds take up a lot of spaces at the army camp (30 per troop) and costs a lot of dark elixir to build, adding one or two to an attack will probably be the limit to use them effectively.

Inferno Towers are probably their biggest threat, especially in single target mode as they cause significant damage to flying troops. It’s best to try and take these out quickly to limit their damage.

The tables below outline the stats for each research level and the general stats applicable to Lava Hounds.
