In Boom Beach Heavies are the first “tank” type unit unlocked. They can take a considerable amount of damage, but their DPS is the lowest out of all the units (except the Medic who has no weapon!).
The Heavy takes up four spaces on a landing craft, so in the early levels you can only fit one or two per craft. They can easily soak up damage from most of the area effect defenses such as machine guns and flamethrowers; however they are weak against high damage single target defenses such as cannons and boom cannons.
They Heavy is not a good unit to fill all of your Landing Crafts with, due to their low damage. The one exception is a map with lots of Rocket Launchers as they can easily soak up the damage whilst getting close enough to make the rocket launcher ineffective.
A great strategy is to use a mix of Heavies and Zooka’s, with the Heavies in front taking the damage and the Zooka’s behind taking down the defenses quickly. Assuming you are upgrading your landing crafts equally I find a good balance is; two landing crafts of Heavies to each landing craft of Zooka’s.
The tables below outline the stats for each upgrade level and the general stats applicable to the Heavy.
