Attacking player, computer and resource bases is a key part of gaining valuable resources in Boom Beach. This guide will cover various strategies which will help you to conquer even the toughest base layouts.
First of all you need to put a lot of resources into upgrading your landing crafts, troops and gun boat. Landing crafts will allow you to send more troops in an attack, upgrading your troops will increase their health and damage (or healing ability) and upgrading your Gun Boat will allow you to start with more energy used for support.
Upgrading troops does cost a lot of gold and therefore I suggest you concentrate on upgrading specific troop types to a high level, rather than upgrading all your troops equally. The reason for this is most attack strategies consist of sending only one or two troop types. If you find a strategy you end up using 95% of the time, then the other troop upgrades become useless.
I suggest you try out each of the following attack strategies and then choose a favourite to concrete on.
This is my absolute favourite combination as it is very versatile and can win pretty much every situation if used correctly. Put simple you use a combination of Heavies to act as meat shields soaking up the damage and Zookas as your main fire power. This is also very cheap to build.
You deploy the Heavies just before your Zooka’s and as they are faster they should stay ahead and take all the fire power. The Zookas will follow from behind quickly taking down targets.
I find a nice balance of Heavies to Zooka’s is roughly 2 Zooka’s to every 1 Heavy. As you get more confident with the attack style you can increase the number of Zooka’s to clear maps faster.
You will need to use flares on some maps to keep all your troops together and avoid boom mines and area effect fire that may target your Zooka’s.
The biggest threat is area effect damage that can potentially wipe out your Zookas. The number one enemy is the rocket launcher, closely followed by Mortars. You should use your Artillery and Barrage to destroy as many rocket launchers as possible before deploying any troops.
You can also use a combination of shock bombs and flares to stun Rocket Launchers and Mortars whilst your Zooka’s get in range to take them out quickly.
I have found very few bases, both player and computer, that cannot be beaten with this combo.
Upgrading Zookas, Heavies, Artillery and Barrage will greatly improve this play style. One or two troop health totems significantly increases your Heavies survivability.
This is possibly the quickest, but riskiest attack play style. To work properly it relies on you having unlocked smoke screens (level 14 Headquarters). The tactic is simple, build solely Warriors and run straight for the opponents head quarters, protecting the Warriors under the cover of Smoke Screens on the way.
You fill all of your landing craft with warriors and deploy together. You need to use Flares to get to the opponents Headquarters as quickly as possible. Whilst your Warriors are running to the Headquarters cover their tracks with Smoke Screens to protect them.
Once they surround the HQ and the Smoke Screen wears off, they will start to attack. As they attack they should heal themselves staying alive long enough to destroy the HQ. You will probably want to drop Medkits on them to start with to help boost their healing ability.
Mines and Boom Mines, as they can still cause damage whilst your warriors are under the smoke. This is especially true if they surround the HQ. Another problem are bases that have a layout tightly surrounding the HQ, as the fire power your Warriors have to withstand can be huge.
Upgrading Warriors, Medkits, Gunboat (for extra utility) and Smoke Screens will improve this attack strategy. Gun boat energy totem is very useful here to allow you to drop more medkits.
Tanks act as, well the tank, with the medics following behind to heal. Tanks can take a huge amount of damage and with a constant healer following from behind is another excellent attack strategy. The downside is that the units are expensive to replace and take a longer to build.
You deploy your tanks first and then follow them with your medics. Try to always keep your tanks between the players defenses and your medic. You can get away with one or two landing crafts of medics if you protect them well with your tanks using flares. This attack style is slow, but can be very effective and it is not unusual to have little to no casualties.
Work your way slowly from the shore to the Headquarters, taking out the defenses as you go.
Boom cannons followed by ordinary cannons. Cannons have a large damage bonus against tanks and you should therefore attempt to take them out as soon as possible. Ideally try and take out all the boom cannons with artillery and barrage before deploying any troops.Failing this the careful use of shock Bombs and flares to take them out early can also be very effective. Don’t be afraid to drop some extra medkits if your tanks take heavy fire to help your medics out.
Tanks, Medics, Medkits and Shock Bombs will do the trick. Health and gunboat totems are useful to increase your tanks hitpoints and aid in utility.
One of the latest additions to the game is the grenadier. This troop has its own unique long range play style that can be quite effective. The key to using the Grenadier is to stay out of range of most of the defenses. The downside is they are expensive, very inaccurate and take a long time to take down buildings.
Fill all of your landing crafts with Grenadiers and set off in search of enemies bases. Once deployed you need to use flares to constantly keep them out of range of defenses. Due to their long range you can take out the buildings whist minimising losses.
The biggest threat to Grenadiers are long range defenses, like the rocket launcher. You should try and take these out with your artillery and barrage first. Sniper Towers can also be a problem, whilst you can stay out of their range it requires careful use of flares to stop your Grenadiers from venturing to close.
This can be quite a slow attack style, but if you are careful and take your time you can defeat your opponent with very minimal loses.
Grenadiers, Artillery and Barrage should be enough to get you started. Damage totems and Gunboat energy is a good combo for this play style.
Warriors and grenadiers are a more risky approach, although used well, nothing can beat the feeling of running through an entire base with your warriors and burning down the HQ before they know what’s hit them!
The key is to choose a play style early on and really get to grips with maxing your upgrades that suit the attack. This will make it far easier for you to win attacks and keep as many of your troops alive as possible.
